How do I dispute Consumers Energy? ›

Contact Consumers Energy at 800-477-5050 to report errors in your eBill or electronic payment transaction(s), or to ask questions about your online account. In the event of a dispute regarding your Consumers Energy online account, you agree to resolve that dispute according to these Terms.

You must pay your reconnect total and call us at 800-371-9811 to restore service. A reconnect fee and security deposit may be added. Requests made by 2 p.m. will be reconnected the same day by 10:30 p.m. Requests made after 2 p.m. will be reconnected the next day between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Disputes can often be resolved as a result of the mediation process, but if the parties do not reach a resolution through mediation, the consumer may choose to hire an attorney, and/or file a private legal action to have a court resolve the dispute.

There is a 2% late payment fee on energy charges that were not paid. Residential customers will be charged when you have unpaid payments due that are six or more days late. Commercial or industrial customers will be charged when you have unpaid payments due that are four or more days late.

Please be aware that the CPUC regulates privately owned electric, natural gas, telephone, water, and sewer utilities.

If you have a traditional electricity meter

To get your power back once you've topped up, put your payment key into the meter. Your power will come back on automatically. If it doesn't, or there's a message on your meter, please call us right away on 0330 175 9669.

One of the few instances where your utility and telecom bills—including energy, phone and cable—will affect your credit score is if you miss enough payments that the provider sends your debt to a collection agency or charges off your account, assuming you're not going to pay it.
